Giga Chikadze added to his highlight reel at UFC Vegas 13 with a devastating head kick to finish Jamey Simmons in the first round.
The Georgian fighter with kickboxing roots showed off his striking prowess throughout the fight with Simmons but it was a body kick followed by a head kick just seconds later that helped him earn his first knockout inside the octagon. The official stoppage came at 3:51 in the first round.
“I’ve been waiting for this for a long, long time,” Chikadze said after picking up his fifth straight win in the UFC. “I’m just enjoying this moment. That’s what’s up. That’s a ‘Giga’ one.”
Knowing that Chikadze had very talented hands and feet, Simmons wasted no time trying to close the distance while working for a takedown once the action got started. Chikadze was slick enough to fight out of the clinch during every attempt and at distance his striking was just deadly.
Chikadze was methodical with his combinations in order to time the shots he was landing but a kick to the body helped him set up the finish.
Just after that shot landed, Chikadze uncorked the head kick that bounced off Simmons’ head and the replay sounded like a bat connecting with a baseball being thrown at 95 miles-per-hour. The end result was Simmons crashing to the canvas with Chikadze delivering a few more shots on the ground before referee Herb Dean stopped the fight.
Following the win, Chikadze pleaded his case for a fight on the upcoming card on Dec. 5 where he hopes to face a true UFC veteran.
“Maybe Jeremy Stephens is the man to step in front of me in December,” Chikadze said. “Let’s go.”
